This week I began to really focus on our shirt project. Through our group teaching on deconstruction of shirts I have decided what I want to look at for my project. Tom spoke on how Vivienne Westwood altered a simple t-shirt design by simply changing where the neck hole was. After experimenting with this idea I became fascinated with some of the shapes and forms I had created.

I began looking at the photos I had taken afterwards. and something stood out to me. I had created a sort of armour out of the deconstructed pieces. An armour out of the ruins it you will. This has resonated strongly with my personal life at the moment and so I thought as a running theme for this project I would explore the idea of out clothes being an armour, protecting out hearts from the cold.

I also feel as if I have been making progress with my essay on the trench coat. I have discovered that the reason for the trench coats popularity was not so much in the shape or form of the garment ( though this had its importance in utility) but in the material innovation that sparked its creation. The creation of Gaberdine, by Thomas Burberry and other similar materials such as those created by Aquascutum lead to the trench coat and its success.
