Monday: Today we looked at being economical with our fabric when cutting out pattern pieces. this is important because not only does in save us money on resources, it also cuts down the amount of waste in producing garments. the exact amount of material needed for a garment can be worked out by laying your fabric on the floor or a table and placing all the pattern pieces in the most economic layout for that fabric. then using a ruler to measure out the amount needed for all the pieces you need you can ensure you are limiting the waste. This is something I already knew how to do but hadn't considered in a while. It is something I plan to do more often.

As well as our technical session, we also had a. life drawing session where we focused on mark making. I found myself using a biro pen in the end as oppose to other forms of media as I liked the fine lines I achieved with a pen. I wanted to focus on the face today as well as looking at the texture of clothing. I am surprised at how well my faces turned out, though not very accurate I enjoyed the stylised look of them. I decided to add texture by crumpling my paper and using acrylic paints, a media I really enjoy. however I feel I was too safe with this. I was worried I would make a mess and this made my final pieces look slightly dull. I need to stop worrying about ruining things and just go for it and step put my comfort zone.

Tuesday: This was a great day. I learnt how to use WGSN to look at colour trends, something I had not considered in much detail before. I was amazed at how helpful it was not only to stay on trend but also discover colour combinations and ideas I had not thought of. I also learn how to make a circle pocket. this is a skill I plan on using in our shirt project. as I can take this idea and use it to create pockets in any shape I like.
Thursday: Today Laura taught us how to use creative cut and draping techniques to design interesting patterns. I plan to use this technique for our current project and come up with new style lines for this shirt.
