Life Drawing Session: looking at fabric on the human form.

This session was started with some quick 5 min sketches of our male model. I Actually found this hard after missing the pervious weeks life drawing class. I didn't realise how much difference missing one session would make but I found it hard to get back into it.

After this we were given half an hour to draw our model. He was lying down and this made it really hard to draw correctly. I struggled to get the proportions of the legs right this Frustrated me. Then when I had finally figured out what I was doing wrong ( I needed to make sure the front leg was exactly the same size as the back) we were given our second task.
Our lecturer then draped a cloth over the model and asked us to draw that( after I faffed around trying to figure out the mans legs they were covered up so that was a waste of time) I decided to do the cloth in chalk, not really certain were to start I began to draw the more dominant lines, I tried to focus on the larger areas of fabric and bits that were lighter. I later went back with graphite to try and incorperate the more shaded areas.

I think the weight of the fabric plays an important role in how you draw it, the harder lines show it folds well and yet still flows, seen in the softer curves. You can really see this as you draw it. the weight of the fabric creates different effects.
I found this task somewhat difficult and definitely need more practice. No more skipping any life drawing classes, plenty more practice is needed, but mostly I enjoy it too much to miss.
