One of the first classes we had was collaging, using bits of magazines/photos to create interesting shapes related to the themes we had chosen( mine being architectural)

Tom encouraged us to come away from trying to make our collages look like clothes and focus more on the random shapes we created.

From here, we started to experiment, using tracing paper we put those shapes we came up with onto a separate form, turning round shapes, playing around with different ideas and ways of putting these shaped on the body. I was shocked at the result, ideas I would have never considered started to come out of nowhere. I was surprised at how different my ideas could be. I really enjoyed this exercise and will use it constantly throughout my creative process.

I really loved the effect the squares and rectangles had here, using a sort of brickwork design has inspired me.

Since the first collage we did in class I've been experimenting with this idea and love the different shapes and colours that have come out of these designs.
